This fully operational airport on Lombok has replaced the former Selaparang Airport which used to be the only operational airport on the island located in Ampenan near Mataram in the South of Lombok. The Indonesian government is quite active in the promotion of Lombok as another stunning tourism destination, right after Bali. Opening up the new international airport on Lombok has been a real cornerstone in developing Lombok as a bigger tourism destination and there are improvements being made to Lombokā€™s infrastructure for greater accessibility as well. Lombok Airport has direct roads to Mataram, which is located around 40 kilometers North-West from the airport and Senggigi, which is located around 55 kilometers from the Airport in Northwest Lombok. Due to developing tourism in pristine Kuta there are more accessible roads going towards the South as well, ensuring that more and more tourists can visit the stunning Kuta and Selong Belanak areas. There is some accommodation close to Lombok Airport, however if youā€™d like to stay somewhere nearer to a beach it is recommended to find a hotel around the Kuta, Selong Belanak or Senggigi areas.
